Apple: microLED displays in Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad and Mac?

According to a recent Bloomberg report, the Apple is set to launch its ambitious plan to replace current OLED displays with its own microLED technology in late 2024, for Apple Watches higher category. This revolutionary move marks the tech giant's foray into the manufacture and use of the latest screen technology in mobile Devices as early as next year. Now it is said that once the Apple Watch Ultra receives the microLED update, Apple will be able to to extend this revolutionary Technology across its entire product line, including iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Apple has been working diligently on microLED display technology for many years and is expected to introduce it with the update Apple Watch Ultra at the end of 2024. After that, it could potentially apply the same technology across its entire product range.

After spending six long years creating its own custom microLED displays, codenamed T159, Apple is finally getting closer to implementing this Technology in a product - or so says the "Power On" newsletter of the Mark Gurman for Bloomberg. The display is intended to offer improved brightness, color reproduction and viewing angles, making images look more like they are "painted" over the glass of the screen. The company is also looking to replace components currently supplied by companies such as Samsung and LG.

As Bloomberg notes, Apple's shift to its own displays could be a big blow to its suppliers. The tech giant has long focused on reducing its reliance on third-party companies developing its own components.

iPhone microLED

As for the new displays, according to a supply chain report published earlier this month, the new technology is expected to debut on the Apple Watch in 2025, however according to Gurman, the 2024 update of the Apple Watch Ultra will be its first recipient.

After this upgrade to its smartwatch in 2024, Gurman predicts that Apple will begin using microLED technology in its iPhone line and then possibly expand to the Devices iPad and Mac. Eventually, this powerful upgrade could become available on all of Apple's major product lines.

However, experts estimate that this plan could be longer term than people might think, as it takes several years for this technology to reach Mac computers, partly due to its complexity.

On the other hand, the screens MicroLEDs are becoming increasingly popular due to their superior their brightness, colour accuracy and energy efficiency. They are also incredibly Resistant and have longer life than traditional LCD or OLED. Considering these advantages, the report of Gurman may be true since it sounds reasonable that Apple would want to bring MicroLED displays to both the Apple Watch and the iPhone, iPad and Mac.
