The upcoming “What If…?” – A Narrative Experience is described as a Disney+ Original that will be released exclusively on Apple’s platform in mixed reality via a walkthrough, offering a one-hour experience. Promised to be released soon with more details to check out, Disney, Marvel and ILM promise to take fans to alternate Marvel stories in both virtual and augmented reality, offering up-close encounters with animated characters from the Disney+ series.

Disney has a long history of using VR and AR technologies in a variety of ways, from partnering with The Void for Star Wars and Marvel VR tour experiences with incredible texture effects, to immersive exhibition halls showcasing the games, locations, and films, the Disney Movies VR since 2016, and recent VR game releases like Vader Immortal and Tales From The Galaxy's Edge.

Details are still scarce, but putting a Marvel fan at the center of a multi-universe story with hand tracking certainly sounds interesting. We're curious to see how much of the experience takes place in your physical room and how much takes place in completely inhospitable environments, and we'll have updates on the app once we learn a little more about it.
