After three hours in Forspoken, we were taken on a wild ride through its magical world. From battling dragons to participating in prison breaks, the game could have been incredibly exciting – if it weren't for the fact that there were often obstacles. While Forspoken has an engaging combat system that can become quite complex over time, most of the initial experiences were sadly dull. The potential is certainly there – now all we need are some creative minds to bring it to life!
As we progressed through Forspoken, we were able to experience chapters two, three, and five, observing its unique pace. The open world of Athia features a wealth of activities, such as side quests, dungeons, and battles, which won't come as much of a surprise to those familiar with the genre. However, some battles will definitely test your mettle, as powerful enemies can easily overwhelm even an experienced player.
Combat is where Forspoken really shines. With its fast-paced action and the need to constantly keep up with all your magical abilities, it offers a thrilling tactical experience. You can choose from over 100 different spells in Forspoken - however, you can only use a few of them during the first few chapters, which can make these early stages feel monotonous as you repeatedly hurl rocks at your opponents while occasionally dodging their attacks. However, as players progress further into this game, they will surely be delighted by the colorful variety of tactics it offers! The main power in the early stages has three customizations: Scatter, Burst and Shield Shot. These function as a magic rifle, submachine gun and carbine respectively. As you unlock new powers, the gameplay becomes even more interesting! It's fun to combine these standard spells with exciting support skills – for example summoning roots from the ground that hold back enemies or creating a plant turret to help in difficult situations.

Armed with a variety of earth-based magical abilities, you'll be able to unlock four different elemental types as your journey progresses. While we admit that being limited to just these rudimentary powers for the early part of Forspoken may not always get your adrenaline pumping, unlocking the more powerful fire magic at the end is definitely a thrill!
Although we haven't had a chance to use them yet, we've seen glimpses of extensive skill trees filled with powerful abilities that promise exciting and evolving gameplay. The combat system showed great potential - letting you experiment with different types of magic and explore how spell combinations affect enemies. The hope is that this feature will develop quickly - aside from its impressive skill tree, Forspoken didn't offer much else worth noting.
The classic Alice in Wonderland/Wizard of Oz story is given a new twist with the protagonist Frey Holland, played by Ella Balinska. As a rough character who is not used to her new magical environment and circumstances, we see signs that she may soften over time. The script written for Frey, however, is not the best. Frey with her wrist friend, Cuff, were agonizing. Walking around with a voice that sounds like Paul Bettany on your arm could be heavenly - but in Forspoken it felt more unsettling than enjoyable.
Forspoken's graphics are off-putting, clearly lacking the graphical punch you'd expect in a modern game. Despite being exclusive to the Playstation 5 and PC, the textures remain blurry and the draw distances are limited. Aside from some attractive effects, this game doesn't seem to be aesthetically pleasing. The atmosphere in the game is dreary and gloomy, a dreary series of streets filled with insignificant citizens. It was also here that Forspoken committed its worst offense: an unforgivably bad stealth mission type with auto fail, which should have been buried with previous console generations.

The fifth chapter of Athia invites players to a stunning world, reminiscent of the fiery lands of Elden Ring 's Caelid . Here, you'll be challenged to not only face intense combat, but also test your magical parkour skills as you navigate this vertical landscape filled with treacherous dangers at every turn. When it all comes together, there's nothing more exhilarating than bouncing down canyons and blasting away at enemies! However, despite the emphasis on brilliant animation and exciting movement options, it can be frustratingly vague in certain situations. When Forspoken is operating at its peak performance levels, there's immense enjoyment to be had – but unfortunately that's not always the case.
The adventure culminated in a thrilling boss battle, which was one of the most memorable experiences of the game. It featured two multi-faceted phases, which will force you to stay on top of all your spells and cooldowns . The first part features a powerful enemy along with his army, which features extremely clever combat design. This unique encounter left us optimistic that Forspoken can surprise us later by creating complex and difficult bosses with great spectacles. Despite the enticing spectacle of the second phase, it was quite boring and even annoying. One of the characteristic visual elements of Forspoken is a blue filter that washes out the color of the world to represent “The Break” – the evil force in this fantasy realm. But unfortunately, what could be an impressive design with distinct identities for each region instead turns into a blurry wash, overshadowing some truly impressive creature designs!
Overall, Forspoken is a fun game with beautiful graphics, but it falls short of its goal of providing a compelling experience for players. It's hopeful that the magical combat will evolve and increase intrigue as time goes on - however, whether this can make up for the tedious storyline and lackluster world-building effort remains to be seen. With so many action RPGs open world on offer right now, Forspoken needs something noteworthy if it wants to stand out from the crowd. While the initial impression wasn't overwhelmingly positive, we're still hopeful that this game will ultimately deliver what we want!
You can experience the exciting world of Forspoken, as Luminous Productions proudly announces January 24, 2023 as its official release date! On social media, they stated that all elements of the game are now complete and development is entering the final stages of final refinement.
