It's official, Blizzard will release Diablo 4 on June 6, 2023, as announced in a new trailer shown during “The Game Awards”.
Elden Ring may have been voted Game of the Year, but I'm sure Blizzard will make a lot of people happy with Diablo 4.
This official announcement came shortly after a report documenting the challenges Blizzard employees faced during the game's development, which mentioned the release date of Diablo 4.

According to the Washington Post, Diablo 4 was originally scheduled to release in April 2023, but the team “felt it needed more time and was able to approve the June date.”
However, there’s still work to be done on Diablo 4, with the Post reporting that while it’s not required, the development team is incentivized to work long hours on the project due to various stock bonuses that will be given out once Diablo 4 launches — the bonuses are based at least in part on its performance.
According to a Blizzard employee quoted in the article, Blizzard “is not willing to delay the game any further,” so the team will need to “ understand how much we’re willing to put in to make sure the game launches in the best possible condition.”
An internal company email sent to the Diablo 4 team in November acknowledged that the development team would be “going through a period where some people may need to work a little bit longer.”

Blizzard tried to bring in a little extra help to get Diablo 4 to the finish line, the Blizzard Albany company previously known as Vicarious Visions (which will be owned by Activision in 2022). However, the onboarding process has been described as uneven, resulting in double work, according to the Post.
Diablo IV seems to be on track and will fulfill its promise of giving players much more flexibility in customizing their favorite characters.
Let's just hope we don't see nerfs to Barbarian or Monk, as they are for most people the two most beloved classes.
