A problem in Google Search appeared to be causing service interruptions whenever users searched for specific terms such as “ How many emojis on iOS ,” “ How many emojis on Apple, ” and “ How many emojis on Windows .”

The issue affected both Google search websites and the mobile app . The issue now appears to be resolved
Google Search was experiencing a error when users searched for phrases like “how many emojis are in iOS” or “how many emojis are in Apple” (without the quotes).
The issue was initially thought to be affecting a country-specific domain, Google.co.nz, when it was reported by YCombinator Hacker News user wfme.
However, other commentators pointed out that Google.com was also affected.
Another user, llui85, compiled a list of some phrases that seemed to cause the problem in Google search when entered into the search bar without the quotes:

“how many emojis on Apple”
“how many emojis in Windows”
“how many emojis on lumia”
“how many emojis lumia”
“how many emoji ios” – it works (although slowly)
“how many emojis in ios”
“how many emojis are there in ios”

“I would bet that a specific website that appears in the results is probably causing this error – I would be very curious to know what it is,” says the user, who after searching for the term below, seems even more convinced that a specific .com website is causing the problem:

Reddit user gottago_gottago suspects that the culprit is Emojipedia.com , as searching for that domain name directly on Google breaks the search.
The behavior is also seen by the Google Search app for Android.

The issue, however, appears to have been resolved now.
