Microsoft is warning that Windows devices with the latest processors are susceptible to “data corruption” in Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.

"that Windows devices support the newer Vector Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) (VAES) instruction set may be susceptible to data corruption," the company revealed.
Devices affected by this newly identified issue use AES-XTS or AES-GCM (AES with Galois/Counter Mode) block ciphers on new hardware .
While Microsoft mentions the risks of data loss on affected systems, the company does not clarify what customers should expect if they are hit by this issue.
The company says the issue was addressed to prevent further data damage in the preview and security builds released on May 24 and June 14, respectively.

However, these Windows updates also come with a performance reduction, as AES-based operations may be twice as slow after installation on affected systems running Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11.
Scenarios affected by reduced performance may include BitLocker, Transport Layer Security (TLS), and disk throughput, especially for enterprise customers.
Customers experiencing performance degradation are advised to install the Update (Windows 11, Windows Server 2022) or July 12 Security Update (Windows 11, Windows Server 2022) for their operating system version as a workaround.
Microsoft says these Windows updates will restore the original performance metrics once installed on affected devices .

“If you are affected, it is recommended that you install the May 24, 2022 preview build or the June 14, 2022 security build as soon as possible to prevent further damage,” Microsoft added.
“Performance will be restored after you install the June 23, 2022 preview build or the July 12, 2022 security build.“
