Brave Search: 5,000% increase in one year

Brave Search , the privacy- focused search engine created by Brave Browser , surpassed 2.5 billion queries, up nearly 5,000% in a year.

To celebrate this success, Brave Software announced that Brave Search is finally coming out of beta and will become the default search engine for all users Brave browser

Additionally, the company said it will be releasing a new feature related to search results in beta. The new feature will be called “Goggles.”

Brave Search boosted by almost 5,000%

Since its launch in June 2021, Brave Search has grown by nearly 5,000%, starting with 8.1 million search queries in June 2021 and reaching 411.7 million by the end of May 2022.

According to Brave, its query volume grew four times faster than that of DuckDuckGo, another popular privacy-.

Brave says that independence remains at the core of the company, with Brave Search users getting 92% of their queries directly from Brave's independent search index rather than through the Bing and Google.

“Search engines that are overly or exclusively dependent on Big Tech are subject to censorship and bias,” Brave explains in its post.

Brave says it has placed a strong emphasis on privacy and independence, but it has also tried to offer new mechanisms that will make the Brave Search experience even better. For example, in April, the company announced a new feature called Discussions, which allows results to be displayed from social media platforms like Reddit.

“Goggles” is a feature that allows Brave Search users to customize how search results, based on their preferences and priorities.

For example, users may prefer results from small news blogs rather than large sites. They can create a Google for that and have those results ranked higher than the others, making the search easier.

With Goggles, users can get more “tailored” search results that would otherwise be impossible in the context of a search engine that does not record queries for user profiling and tracking.

Brave Search's rise to prominence is a significant achievement, considering that the search engine started as an experiment. However, a year after its launch, it appears to have gained a lot of users and become quite popular.

And with the continuous addition of new features, such as Goggles and Discussions, Brave Search will surely do even better, since it shows that the company is not only interested in an independent search that respects privacy, but also wants to offer useful features that will make the search experience even better.
