YouTube TV announced on Twitter that this week 5.1 audio support will be rolling out to Google TV, Android TV, and Roku devices.

YouTube TV is available on a variety of devices, but it doesn’t support 5.1 surround sound on all of them. The streaming TV service first rolled out 5.1 Dolby Audio support for its platform in June 2021, but limited it to smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Vizio, and the original Chromecast. This meant that users with a home theater system couldn’t get the most out of it while watching YouTube TV content on streaming box . In March of this year, the company realized that 5.1 surround sound support is important for users of other devices, and announced that it was testing support for Roku, Android TV, and Google TV. More than two months later, the public release of 5.1 audio support for those platforms began.

According to a support page for YouTube TV, if you have a compatible hardware setup and the program you're watching is available with 5.1 audio, it should be enabled automatically.

If you're hoping to get a few extra channels but want to stream your YouTube TV subscription package to another device, like Fire TV, Apple TV, PlayStation , or Xbox, the latest update in March said that YouTube is "still working internally and with partners" to enable the feature on those platforms.
