LG on Wednesday unveiled its next-generation TV panel, dubbed OLED EX. The new panel promises many advantages over conventional OLEDs, including much higher brightness, better picture quality, improved color accuracy and more.

LG says its new OLED EX panel uses deuterium instead of the hydrogen used in current OLED panels. The company has successfully converted hydrogen elements found in organic light-emitting elements into stable deuterium and applied these compounds to the OLED EX. LG explains that the use of deuterium compounds along with customized image processing algorithms provide improved stability and efficiency to the organic light-emitting diodes. Compared to hydrogen compounds, deuterium allows the panel to emit up to 30% brighter light while maintaining high efficiency.

The OLED EX panel uses LG's custom algorithms to predict the use of organic light-emitting diodes "after learning individual viewing patterns and precisely controls the display's power input to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played.".

In addition to increased brightness output and improved picture quality, the OLED EX promises to reduce bezel thickness by up to 30%. LG says they've managed to reduce the bezel from 6mm to 4mm on a 65-inch OLED panel.
LG plans to incorporate OLED EX technology into OLED TV panels from the second quarter of 2022. However, the company did not reveal when we can expect new TVs with OLED EX.
LG will showcase its new transparent OLED panels at CES 2022 next month.
