Nearly 68% of employees use the same smartphone for both work and personal use, while 32% use two smartphones, one for work and one for personal use, according to a study conducted by Google, as a large percentage of the mobile workforce continues to work from home.

Across all user groups surveyed, 70 percent said they would prefer a user interface (UI) on phones that clearly separates work and personal apps and data, compared to a UI without separation.
“Users reported that a clear demarcation between work and personal apps and data can help them improve digital well-being and work-life balance,” said the Google study conducted with the company Qualtrics.
"With the rise of home workers and a large number of companies announcing hybrid work plans, employees are increasingly juggling work and personal lives on a single device. Many are struggling to find the right balance between creating separation between work and personal life and maintaining privacy," Google said in a post on Thursday.
The data showed that users with a work profile (81%) are more satisfied than users without a work profile (71%) with their experience managing work and personal life on the same device.

When there is a separation between work and personal applications, people are more aware of data and the boundaries they can or cannot cross.
Users with work profiles know that data associated with their work account can be viewed by their company and are comfortable with the fact that their work data can be kept secure.
For example, 63% of work profile users are aware that their work app usage (data recorded in work apps) is visible to IT, compared to 39% of users without a work profile who also use corporate apps on their phone.

"Our study shows that users with work profiles are significantly more satisfied with their work-life balance compared to users without work profiles," Google said.
