
There's some bad news for gamers, as it's been reported that the PS3, PS Vita, and PlayStation Portable (PSP) stores will be unavailable for a long time to come. This news has not been officially confirmed by Sony, but a source TheGamerthat the digital stores will be closing this summer. According to this source, an official announcement will be made at the end of this month.

The PSP and PS3 stores will close on July 2, while the PS Vita store will remain open until August 27. After these dates, gamers will no longer be able to purchase digital copies of games or DLC for any of the aforementioned Sony consoles.

The PS3 was released in November 2006 and has since sold a total of 87 million consoles. The console officially ended production four years ago, after 11 successful years on the market and three model redesigns.

The PSP was equally successful, with approximately 81 million units soldsince its release.

However, the PS Vita wasn't as popular. Sony's second handheld was released in December 2011 and sold 10-15 million units, despite being a great little machine. It's become a bit more popular lately, thanks to the ease of converting it into a portable emulator.

If the news about the PS3, PS Vita and PSP stores closing is true, then you need to take action. If you have any of the three consoles and want to download a specific game, now is the time. Of course, the price of physical games will increase once the digital stores close.
