OTE in the international FTSE4Good with the leading companies in sustainable development issues

-The pandemic has boosted interest in investments with sustainable development criteria (ESG – Environmental, Social, Governance)

November 18, 2020

OTE has been included in the FTSE4Good index series for the 12th consecutive year , as a result of its performance in areas such as environmental protection, community support and corporate governance . In addition to OTE, the FTSE4Good Emerging index includes 35 other telecommunications companies around the world and 7 Greek companies .

The international FTSE4Good indices are used by investment schemes and market players as a tool to evaluate listed companies on their performance in environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and to create socially responsible investment funds and other products. In recent years, and especially with the Covid-19 seems to have been a significant increase in interest in so-called "sustainable" investments, where investors take sustainable development (ESG) criteria seriously into account for the companies they invest in.

“For OTE Group, sustainable development is not something new. It has been part of our strategic planning and operations for many years. The pandemic has raised our agenda for supporting society, the economy and the environment even higher,”says the Group’s President and CEO, Mr. Michalis Tsamaz, in his message to the OTE Group’s 2019 Integrated Sustainable Development Report. “It is certain that sustainable development will play a leading role in the post-covid era. The protection of human health and the natural environment, the shift to digital solutions such as teleworking, and international solidarity, are coming to the forefront, structurally changing the way we operate,” adds the head of OTE.

Sustainable development is an integral part of OTE Group's strategy

The integration of sustainable development along with profitability into the business strategy and overall activity of the OTE Group, the strictest criteria for measuring its performance, and the international standards for shaping its policies and procedures have contributed - among other things - to OTE's participation in sustainable development indicators - SRI (Social Responsible Indexes).

OTE responds to analyst assessments by participating in a total of six sustainable development/socially responsible investment indices. Specifically, it participates in four indices related to ESG (Environment, Society, Corporate Governance) issues: FTSE4Good, VIGEO-EIRIS Best Emerging Market Performers, “Prime” Corporate ESG Performance by ISS-ESG, MSCI ESG Research, as well as the international CDP index for Climate Change issues and the 2020 Bloomberg LP Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which is one of the most important business indices for equality issues and the promotion of the position of women in the workplace.

For the FTSE4Good indices

The FTSE4Good index series, created by global stock index provider FTSE Russell (a partnership between FTSE International Limited and Frank Russell Company), is designed to measure companies' performance in implementing key environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices
