Don't panic! The news is all about England...New coronavirus guidelines in England have made it illegal to have sex in your home with someone you don't live with. The government is set to issue new regulations that will ban people from having sex indoors with people who don't live together under the same roof.
The new regulation reads as follows: “No person may participate in a gathering that takes place in a public or private indoor space and consists of two or more people.”
What is the difference with the current regulation? Until now, the person who came to your house "paid" it, now you will "pay" it together, based on the new amendment to the 2020 Health Protection Bill (Coronavirus, Restrictions).
Previous rules did not include wording about meeting in private spaces, as the general message was to “stay home.” Now only those with “reasonable excuses” will be allowed to meet privately indoors – which does not include meetings for sex.
Reasonable excuses include athletes, vulnerable people and essential workers. Caring for children, separated parents living in different households, funerals and providing assistance to people in need will also be considered reasonable excuses.
It is not yet clear how a person could be prosecuted – and whether they would be fined – if found to be violating the new laws. The amendment states that both people are breaking the laws.
It is worth noting that at the start of the UK lockdown in late March, the government urged couples to stay together or stay apart to prevent the virus from spreading between two households. The deputy chief medical officer, Jenny Harries , noted that many couples living apart have not seen each other for more than two months. In fact, a new study found that 6 in 10 Britons have had zero sexual activity during the lockdown.
