Ring: Gives your data to Facebook, Branch, AppsFlyer and MixPanel

An investigation by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has revealed that the Android app “Ring” has settings that allow users to be tracked by third-party data trackers. Essentially, it is an app that allows users to see, hear, and speak to anyone from anywhere. Thus, the data sent by the app, such as customer names, sensor data, and private IP addresses, helps companies build a specific and distinct picture of users.ring application

Specifically, Facebook receives notifications every time the app is opened and after the app is turned off, when the screen locks due to inactivity. Even if the Ring user does not have a Facebook account , the social network still receives information such as time zone, device model , language preferences, and a unique identifier.mixpanel

Most of the information, however, is sent to a company called MixPanel . In addition to information about device characteristics , the company receives details about user names, email addresses , and app settings, including the number of locations where devices with the Ring app are installed. MixPanel is the only company officially listed as a service partner by Ring.  The company also uses third-party data analytics platforms to evaluate usage of the website and mobile apps.

As for the AppsFlyer platform, it receives sensor from devices with the Ring app installed. In addition, the EFF investigation revealed that the “Ring” app also sends some information to the Google, without being able to determine the exact extent of the data exchange with the service.
