The UK's Labour Party has been hit by a hacking attack described as a "sophisticated and wide-scale cyberattack " .
A Labour Party spokesman said the cyberattacks affected the party's website and online campaigning tools and platforms, which were offline yesterday. IT and security researchers were working hard to restore the systems.
The nature of the attack has not yet been revealed, but a party spokesman said the attack was carried out very quickly but failed due to the party's "strong cyber security."
"The integrity of all our platforms has been maintained and we are confident that no data breach," the Labour Party officially stated.
"The hacking incident has slowed down some of our campaign activities, but as of this morning we are returning to normal.".
The incident has been reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.
The attack comes ahead of the start of the General Election, with the UK set to go to the polls on December 12.
