Mark Zuckerberg: discovering the meaning of privacy

After an incredible crisis of conscience, Mark Zuckerberg seems to have rediscovered the meaning of privacy today. Or is he once again trying to muddy the waters?

In a letter containing 3,000+ words (approximately), Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg informed his 2.3 billion followers that his company is taking a concept known as privacy seriously, and sees it as an opportunity. Mark Zuckerberg

But can Facebook reform a 15-year legacy that wants the company to conquer all, with a letter from its visionary and dark-pattern?

NO, of course it can't.

In the 3,000+ word letter, Mark Zuckerberg failed to cover up the fact that his company created the modern idea of social networks as cash-printing machines that record inner thoughts, desires, and how we connect with other people and the web.

The idea of the Facebook founder seems to be another self-presentation and it's almost boring.

Mark Zuckerberg: discovering the meaning of privacy

“A Privacy-Focused Vision for Social Networking” could be a compelling letter if it had been written by any company other than Facebook.

“I think there’s an opportunity to set a new standard for private communication platforms – where content automatically expires or is archived over time,” says Zuckerberg, who seems to be seriously concerned about privacy.

“… This philosophy could be extended to all private content.”

Unfortunately, no company can create anything interesting in the social media space because Facebook's well-established and very aggressive attitude towards its competitors means that the game is over before it even starts. And if any company manages to do something, Facebook will give the necessary billions to make it its own.

Certainly, Facebook's sudden interest in privacy comes after the chain reactions caused by the revelation of several scandals. Facebook probably realizes that it is time to take a different path, or if not a path, a different image.

In recent years, the company has realized that it is easier to let someone else innovate, develop a product, and attract users than to do it itself. Facebook's modern role in the tech landscape is either to develop a working teletype or to buy up every innovation and keep it under the Facebook brand.

Let us recall that Facebook managed to go a long way, relying on the deliberate obfuscation of facts and favors, which, together with the ignorance of users (and governments), gave it the opportunity to collect users and data, building an empire.

This is a company that avoids giving a straight answer about what exactly is going on.
