The location reporting feature in Google Maps works great if you want to keep track of your kids or track down your friends. But another small addition makes the service much more useful.
Starting today, when someone shares their location with you, the Google Maps app will not only show you where they are, but it will also show you the battery status of their phone.
This way, you will know if their phone is about to stop working, and if it does, you will know why it is no longer reporting their location.
This feature is already available in the Google Maps mobile app and you can try it out right away.
Needless to say, we will have to completely forget about what personal privacy means. Not that it has existed since the moment mobile phones and the internet were released, but with the above feature you will have to explain why you were not sharing your location since your device was active…
