Parrot Security OS (or ParrotSec) is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian. It was developed for Penetration Testing (computer security), Vulnerability Assessment and Mitigation, Computer Forensics and Anonymous Surfing. It was created by the Italian Frozenbox Team.

ParrotSec or Parrot Security OS offers many tools for analyzing web content and computer systems. It is a laboratory for digital forensics, with legally recognized tools that work together with cryptography, offering many possibilities. In addition, it allows you to surf and work anonymously.

Parrot 3.11 is based on the Debian GNU/Linux 10 “Buster” testing distribution, and uses the Debian Testing repositories. with a security-optimized Linux 4.14.x Kernel. The distribution is a rolling release.

Parrot 3.11 will be the last release in the 3.xx series and comes with kernel fixes for the meltdown and spectre vulnerabilities.

The new Parrot Security OS 3.11 release comes with Linux Kernel 4.14, which will be supported for a few years, as well as Mozilla's Firefox Quantum (58). The popular browser comes with a customized ParrotSec profile specifically for the distribution.

The new distribution, in addition to security updates to the kernel, improves the stability of the installer, updates many security tools and brings some necessary improvements to graphics.

The desktop environment is MATE, a fork of Gnome 2, and the default display manager is LightDM.

The program is certified to run on systems that have at least 265Mb of RAM and is suitable for both 32bit (i386) and 64bit (amd64).

It also has a special version that works on old 32bit machines (486). In addition, the program is available for armel and armhf architectures. It also has a version (32bit and 64bit) developed for servers to perform Cloud pentesting.
