Firefox Private Network: Mozilla's new "VPN" for more security

Firefox Private Network: Firefox improves its security features with a new beta extension that secures your personal data and hides IP , protecting you from third-party trackers.

Until now, if you wanted to try out new Firefox features without installing a potentially unstable beta version of the browser, Firefox Test Pilot allowed you to play with experimental extensions before they were officially released. The Test Pilot program closed in January of this year, but it's back with a new browser.

Firefox Private Network secures your devices when you’re on public WiFi, while hiding your IP address to make it harder for anyone to track you. It’s essentially like a VPN , and Mozilla says it “provides a secure, encrypted path to the web” to prevent other users on your WiFi network from stealing your personal information. However, Mozilla doesn’t want to call the new extension a VPN, which other browsers like Opera offer by default, even on their mobile versions.

The browser extension has a toggle so you can easily turn it on or off at any time. You can try it for free during the beta trial period if you're in the US. To learn more or download the extension, head to the Firefox website.
