Yesterday, Microsoft and OpenAI, the company founded by Elon Musk, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, and Sam Altman, announced that they are going to collaborate. Specifically, Microsoft intends to invest $1 billion in OpenAI with the aim of creating technologythat can perform complex tasks.
Through this partnership, the two companies will build new Azure AI supercomputing technologies, while according to the announcement they issued, Microsoft will become the exclusive provider cloud of OpenAI. The companies stated that their goal is to create a technology, (“artificial general intelligence” (AGI), that will be able to solve more complex problems than those that artificial intelligence can currently address.
“Modern AI systems work well for the specific problems they are trained to solve. However, to help address some of the most difficult and important problems facing the world today, more generalized principles and deep knowledge of multiple AI technologies are required,” the two companies in a press release.

The press release went on to say that OpenAI and Microsoft envision a generalized artificial intelligence that humans will use to address many different problems, such as climate change, but also to advance important services, such as personalized healthcare and education.
OpenAI chose not to take on this project. According to its announcement, it decided to license some of its “pre-AGI technologies” and make Microsoft its partner.
The two companies decided to do this collaboration because, as they said, they share the same principles and have a common vision.
OpenAI stated that the creation of AGI technology will be the most significant technological development in human history, as it will be able to change and improve humanity.
