Messaging app WhatsApp has made a very important decision. According to reports, users will be able to send and receive cryptocurrencies through the app .
The news was announced by Zulu Republic in a tweet. Zulu is “a blockchain ecosystem of tools and platforms.” According to the tweet, WhatsApp users will be able to trade Bitcoin (BTC) and Litecoin (LTC) using the messaging platform. This is a very important step, as the WhatsApp application has billions of users. This is a major opening for the crypto market.
The tweet read: “We are pleased to announce that starting today you can send and receive #bitcoin & #Litecoin on #WhatsApp via @liteim_official!
The WhatsApp bot accepts Bitcoin, Litecoin and Zulu’s native token, ZTX. Users from all over the world will now be able to easily make transactions through the app. Lately, messaging apps and social networking platforms have been increasingly involved in cryptocurrencies. Facebook recently announced that it wants to create its own native token. However, there are no details yet on when it will be ready and when it will be released.
Facebook and WhatsApp face some security issues
Facebook has been accused of violating users' privacy many times. However, WhatsApp (owned by Facebook) is also facing some security issues, as it was recently revealed that hackers exploited a vulnerability in the app and managed to install spyware on iOS and Android smartphones. This vulnerability has existed for quite some time and allowed the installation of the spyware simply by making a call via WhatsApp.
After the incident, WhatsApp urged its customers to update the app to fix the problem. After this, we are not sure whether users can trust the messaging app to make transactions with their cryptocurrencies. Similarly, Facebook ,which wants to release its own token, has been accused so many times of not properly protecting personal information, as a result of which it does not inspire much trust and security among users.
