A hacker managed to take control of Malaysian Minister Khalid Abdul Samad's Telegram.
News website Malaysiakini discovered this when the hacker contacted one of its journalists in an attempt to carry out a scam.
According to “Khalid,” he had spoken to Inland Revenue Board CEO Sabin Samitah and learned that the journalist was under investigation and his assets would soon be frozen.
In fact, he told him, “I know you are being investigated and in the next few days they will freeze all your accounts and search your assets.”
“I would call you, but it’s safer to keep our conversation private on Telegram, because as a minister some of my regular phone calls can sometimes be monitored, so it’s better to have this conversation on Telegram,” the hacker said. The hacker then offered to help and said he would discuss the matter with the IRB boss over dinner.
The journalist was then asked to reveal his salary, to which the journalist responded with a false amount.
The hacker then asked the journalist to delete the WhatsApp account.
This appeared to be part of an attempt to hack his WhatsApp account, as the journalist later received a message for a WhatsApp verification code.
The hacker asked the journalist to send him the code to create a “private call” with him, which the journalist coded and sent to him. For the record, the journalist is still waiting for the call.
The real Khalid, in a call from Malaysiakini, confirmed that his Telegram account was hacked. Khalid said he will file a police report tomorrow regarding the matter.
