DragonEx announced on Monday on its official channel that it fell victim to a cyberattack on Sunday, March 24. The attack aimed to steal users' cryptocurrency funds.
On Sunday, DragonEx took the platform offline, saying it was for system maintenance. However, yesterday it revealed that the real reason was that it had been hacked.
“A portion of the assets have been recovered and we will do our best to recover the remaining stolen assets,” DragonEx said on Monday.
However, we still do not have information on the amount of stolen funds.
DragonEx also stated: "Several judicial authorities have been notified of this cybercrime including Estonia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and others. We are also assisting the police in their investigation.".
He further added: “All platform services will be shut down and the exact status of loss recovery will be announced in a week. For the losses caused to our users, DragonEx will take responsibility regardless of what happens.”.
After investigation, it was discovered that 20 cryptocurrencies had been transferred to some addresses, which were shown by the DragonEx Telegram admin. Among the cryptos found there were the top bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), XRP, litecoin (LTC), and EOS.
The platform is asking for everyone's help to address the problem. It even said that the stolen cryptocurrencies that have been transferred to Huobi and gate.io exchanges have already been blocked.
