Windows 10 is coming to Nintendo Switch consoles

Windows 10 now installed on Nintendo Switch console. The project is still in its early stages but is progressing rapidly.

Installing operating systems on Nintendo Switch consoles seems to be the upcoming big challenge for developers around the world, as after successfully leveraging Android and Linux on the game console, someone managed to do the same with Windows 10.

Twitter user @imbushuo, who helped install Windows 10 on ARM on the Lumia 950 XL, is now trying to install the same operating system on the Nintendo Switch console.

Photos of his work confirm that the operating system can be installed on the device, although at the moment the screen freezes and a successful reboot is not possible.

Of course, these issues will be resolved soon and it's only a matter of time before Windows 10 can be successfully installed on the device. The Nintendo Switch console has an ARM chipset, which means that it could technically run ARM-based Windows 10 if it had a custom UEFI firmware and the right program. The developer explains, "It's not yet usable. It can boot to something from the SD card (needs a full boot sequence). Then the Windows Kernel gets stuck with the current memory area."

However, it will be very interesting to uncover the real benefits of installing Windows 10 on the Nintendo Switch console, especially since this venture will not help the gaming experience in any way.

The UEFI firmware used to run Windows 10 on ARM on the Nintendo Switch console is available on GitHub for anyone who wishes to support the idea and contribute to the development of the project.
