Group FaceTime will return to iPhones, iPads, and Macs next week.
After discovering a software bug that allowed surveillance through the video calling app, Apple announced on Friday that it has fixed the problem and will re-enable the app next week.
It is worth noting that once the news went viral, Apple immediately disabled Group FaceTime from its servers.
In addition to correcting the error, the company referred, in a recent statement, to both how it handled this issue and the measures it will take to prevent similar errors from occurring in the future.
“We want to assure our customers that as soon as our engineering team became aware of the bug, they quickly disabled Group FaceTime and began working to fix it,” the company said in a statement. “We are committed to improving the process by which we receive these types of reports so that the right people can act as quickly as possible. We take the security of our products seriously and are committed to continuing to earn your trust.”
The positive side of the matter is that the suffering and stress are over. We hope that similar incidents that endanger the privacy of users will not occur in the future.
