Last April, Google revamped Gmail for desktop with a focus on machine-learning and other smart features. Now, the new features are available in Gmail for Android only, and the redesign includes many changes beyond the familiar Google Material Theme.

After upgrading to version 9.1, the new Gmail welcomes users with a new and fresh look. If the user taps “Tapping Next” it will automatically go to the new “Choose a view” option, where users can choose between Default, Comfortable and Compact. This option is available after setup: Setting > General Settings > Conversation. It should be noted that the “ default ” feature will sort email attachments in the first inbox view. Users can click to open a document or photo immediately, with the pointer showing an icon with the file type and a name. This is very convenient for quick access to tickets and related files. The “ comfortable ” feature is almost the same as it was but there is a difference that attachments are indicated by the standard paperclip icon next to the time/day/date in the top right corner. Also, the “ compact ” feature will replace the profile pictures on the left with check boxes.
Gmail's Material Theme removes the red app bar with a white search field that's a hamburger button on the left and a profile icon on the right. Also, with the new account switcher, the navigation drawer simply says "Gmail" at the top, followed by "All inboxes" and "Inbox." There's a "Recent labels" category that shows the last three open folders, with all the labels below that. There are also shortcuts for calendar and contacts that remain at the top.
Regarding the core navigation of Gmail for Android, it remains the same. All icons have been upgraded with the Material Theme style. There are also some animations and the colorful FAB is available in the top right corner for composing. Now, Gmail on mobile will warn better about dangerous messages, as a large red banner has been added, and the reply and follow up features have already been released since last year.
All these features have already been added, as Gmail is an application that is used very often and aims to continuously improve the user experience.
