WhatsApp has for Android released a new Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature. The feature was known to us only as a beta until today, which is coming to Android via the stable version 2.18.380.
But what does this function offer?
It essentially allows you to watch Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube videos in a small window while checking your WhatsApp conversations.
To enable the new feature, you don't need to do anything extra other than add a Facebook, Instagram or YouTube video. Once you tap on that link, the video plays in a small, dedicated window that sits above your WhatsApp conversations. This means you can continue to communicate with either individuals or members of a WhatsApp group while watching the available Facebook, Instagram or YouTube video.
It's worth noting that while videos from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube play in a separate window on WhatsApp, the same is not true for videos that a user can share via instant messaging. The same is true for videos shared from other video platforms.
WhatsApp released the beta version of the Picture-in-Picture feature for Android in October. Of course, iOS users have been enjoying the feature since January 2018.
All you need to enable Picture-in-Picture mode is to download the latest version of WhatsApp for Android from Google Play.
