Project Fi, which prioritizes Wi-Fi, has been renamed Google Fi and is now available for iPhones and select Samsung and OnePlus devices. The service was previously available for Google devices, including the Pixel and Nexus, four Motorola models, and LG phones.
For iPhone owners, the service is still in beta and users may need “a few extra steps to set it up.” Google has also released a new Google Fi app for iOS that will help users set up Fi services on their iPhones.
By making the Wi‑Fi calling service available for iPhones, Google makes clear its intention to expand its user base and spread the service. The redesign and renaming of the service show that the company wants this new service to carry its name.
To boost its service, Google has also released offers for new and existing owners of Google mobile phones. The company offers travel gift cards for those who will purchase new phones compatible with Fi and service credit for users who choose the service with their existing Fi phone. Special offers will be available only today.
Google is not the only company that offers a Wi-fi network. Large companies such as T-Mobile, Verizon, AT & T and Sprint also offer such services. However, what sets Google Fi apart from other Wi-Fi calling services is obviously its lower price.
