In May, Apple launched a new privacy portal to demonstrate its compliance with the European Union's GDPR laws. Now, the company is moving forward and launching the feature for users in the US and Canada.
On the new Data and Privacy site, iOS users can view and download all the data ever stored on Apple routers. The personal data includes Apple ID, Apple App Store activity, AppleCare history, and pictures, videos, and documents stored in iCloud.
How to download personal data from Apple's privacy portal:
- Go to Apple's Data and Privacy page
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Click “Get Started” in the “Get a copy of your data” section.
- Select the type of data you want to download
- Additionally, select the maximum file size
- Click Complete Request
The requested data will be posted to your Apple ID account page and you will be notified once it has been retrieved. The data is only available for 14 days, after which it will be removed and you will have to download it again. Additionally, the website allows you to completely erase your data from Apple routers.
Apple has also updated its privacy website, focusing on new features added with macOS Mojave and iOS 12 like Screen Time and Intelligent Tracking Prevention.
In addition to the US and Canada, the new feature is also available in countries like Australia, Canada, Iceland, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, and Switzerland.
