Recent reports confirm the availability of a brand new Android-like menu on Google's Chrome OS operating system for touchscreen Chromebooks.
If you have a Chromebook with a touchscreen, know that Google engineers are working on a brand new power menu similar to that of the Android mobile operating system, allowing you to either log out of Chrome OS or turn off the device after a long press of the power button.
In terms of functionality, the all-new power menu allows Chromebook users to either log out of the Linux-powered Chrome OS operating system or turn off the device. The power menu is currently available for public testing through the Chrome Canary experimental channel.
"After long-pressing the power button on touchscreen Chromebooks, a brand new Android-style menu now appears to turn off the device or sign out," a Google spokesperson said.
Last week we reported on several new features coming to the new Chromebook version, including better support for external displays and a brand new virtual keyboard, a wallpaper picker and support for exporting passwords to a text file (.csv), as well as a magnifier accessibility tool.
Google also plans to support Linux apps on Chromebooks, allowing Linux VMs (virtual machines) to run on Chrome OS. It will be a while before all of these impressive features are available to all users on the stable channel.
