At MWC 2018, Qualcomm announced a new Snapdragon SoC series called Snapdragon 700 to offer a balance between the Snapdragon 600 and the mid-range Snapdragon 800 series.
The mobile platform, as Qualcomm calls it, takes the middle ground between price and performance. It combines everything you like about the premium features available in the 800 series, but keeps the price low enough to fit into the mid-range device segment.
In addition to the hardware upgrades over the Snapdragon 600 series, Qualcomm says the 700 series delivers up to 2x faster on- device with the help of their multi-core AI engine. So, it's time for AI to move to non-core devices, allowing them to handle everyday machine learning tasks in a better way.
The improved feature set includes support for better camera features, up to 30% power efficiency, better performance and battery life, etc. All this compared to the Snapdragon 660, which is the most powerful in the 600 series.
The Snapdragon 700 also features technology that can fill a 2750mAH battery from zero to 50% in just 15 minutes.
Actual details about any Snapdragon 700 series product are not yet known. Qualcomm has said that the first sample of the platform will be available in the first half of 2018.
