Moto G2: May run on Ubuntu Touch operating system

Moto G2: If you still have a Moto G Gen 2 (aka Moto G 2014), you can install the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system from UBports on it, thanks to an effort by an XDA community member.

Walid Hammami managed to port UBports' Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system to the 2014 Moto G2 smartphone, which features a Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400 chip, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage.

Therefore, the Moto G2 has been accepted by the UBports project as the first community-supported device and even has all the functional features, such as Wi-Fi, GSM, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, SMS, camera, Ubuntu Store, etc.

The Moto G2 is the first device supported by the Ubuntu community, UBports is introducing a brand new shared devices section on its website, which will feature all devices that have been ported to the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system by community members.

UBports says that while these community devices will be hosted on their website, they will not be officially supported. Instead, they will be maintained by the community members who ported them to the Ubuntu OS, who are responsible for quality, stability, and updates.

If you want to turn your old Moto G2 smartphone into an Ubuntu phone, check out the dedicated forum thread on the XDA-Developers website for details on installation instructions and updates. The device currently supports Ubuntu Touch based on Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Velvet) and Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial Xerus).Moto G2
