The mythical Surface Phone is on a good track to be launched at the end of 2018, according to a new report, as Microsoft has recently completed work on the hardware section and created various prototypes for testing.
The reports coming from anonymous sources, claimed to be familiar with the topic, show that the Andromeda device, which is often referred to as “Surface Phone”, will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor and the focus will be on battery life across multiple factors.
WL writes that foldable screens are very likely, just as we have seen in many patents recently, but Microsoft still needs to improve the software side of the project.
The device launch should take place in the second half of the current year, as Microsoft is now working with partners to test those prototypes and complete the software that powers them.
Although it is obvious that rumors like these should not be taken as fact, this is the second report showing that Microsoft could take the casings from the Surface Phone later this year.
Previously, it was said that this new mobile device would definitely be released with foldable screens and would run Windows Polaris, a new version of Microsoft's Windows 10 that will be optimized specifically for use with Store apps.
More like an evolved version of Windows 10 S, Windows Polaris could be limited to the Microsoft Store, but still provide support for Win32 software with virtualization using cloud.
Previous speculations about this new mobile device claimed that the Surface Phone could launch this year with Windows Polaris but without virtualization features, so initially it would only support apps in the Store. A major update is expected to launch next year with such features.
