Opera has released new versions of its mobile browsers that block cryptocurrency mining within the browser if Ad-Block is enabled. This feature has already appeared in the desktop version of Opera since December and is now available on mobile.
In-browser mining is when various websites use the CPU power of your smartphone or tablet to mine cryptocurrencies. However, this type of behavior can have serious consequences for your devices, as it causes the CPU to run at 100%, resulting in very high temperatures and for a long time.
Both Opera Browser and Opera Mini for Android and iOS have the option to enable and disable the Ad-blocker. If you install the latest version on either of them, you can go to the settings and check if you have the Ad-Blocker enabled.
Once your ad blocker is enabled, you can check if you are protected at https://cryptojackingtest.com, which was created by Opera. Simply visit the site and click the start button. Opera will load a fake mining script into your browser and determine whether it was able to start or be blocked.
The company says that this site can be used to test any browser and check the functionality of the ad-blocker. If your browser is found to allow cryptocurrency mining and you do not plan to switch to Opera Browser, make sure you have some security software installed and add an ad-blocker extension to your existing browser.
