Everyone is waiting for Apple's iPhone X, but how many will actually buy it?

It's hard not to be impressed by the shiny iPhone X, but that doesn't mean users are going to buy one of Apple's most advanced phones ever.

Apple

According to Reuters, a survey of 1,112 iPhone users by brokerage firm Bernstein showed that although the public will buy a “satisfactory” number of iPhones, that number is not consistent with the general enthusiasm people have shown so far for Apple’s newest shiny product.

Pre-orders for the iPhone X begin on October 27th, with its release set for November 3rd.

"The excitement surrounding the iPhone X appears to be greater than the actual purchase intent — 48 percent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that they were 'excited about the iPhone X,'" Bernstein told Reuters.

Almost half of the users excited about the upcoming iPhone X, however, said they would actually go ahead and buy one.

It's unclear what kind of buying demands Apple is really making from a phone that has made a significant leap in both cost and technology. The iPhone 8 Plus starts at $799, which is $200 less than the 64GB model of the iPhone X (as opposed to $1,149 for the 256GB model). Additionally, the iPhone X comes with the exciting if controversial facial-scanning technology, Face ID.

The “satisfactory” iPhone X sales forecasts could be good news for Apple’s prospects. It’s also unlikely that the company will produce too many iPhone Xs, given the challenges of manufacturing them at the multinational Chinese factory that makes them.

The survey revealed other good news for Apple, proving that its customer loyalty “remains extremely strong.” Only 3% of iPhone users surveyed said their next phone purchase would not be an iPhone.
