COSMOTE was the first in Greece to showcase the unlimited possibilities of 5G. In a live demonstration held in collaboration with Nokia, COSMOTE achieved speeds of up to 4.5Gbps and gave the public the opportunity to experience 5G through virtual reality applications.
"5G is the future of telecommunications and COSMOTE is the first to present its capabilities in Greece. We are preparing for tomorrow, today. We are investing in new generation networks and modern infrastructures, to be the first to offer our customers the most innovative services that will meet their needs in the new digital era. With technology and innovation, we are building a better world for everyone," said Mr. George Tsonis, Executive Director Network Planning & Devops of OTE Group.
Visitors to the COSMOTE booth at the InfoCom World conference had the opportunity to live the ultimate 5G experience by watching 360° video streaming through a Virtual Reality mask, with very high speed, top quality and reliability, and without any interruption.
In this way, COSMOTE and Nokia, utilizing the 3.5GHz spectral range and the capabilities of 5G technology, gave a "taste" of the future.
5G technology enables the provision and management of new interactive and intelligent services across all connected devices in near real-time.
It can serve up to 1,000,000 devices per square kilometer, offering up to 10,000 times more capacity than today's networks. Maximum speeds will reach up to 10Gbps, while an average speed of 100Mbps will be available throughout the network. Response time will drop to 1 millisecond with simultaneous communication reliability of 99.999%.
OTE Group contributes to the design and development of new 5G technologies, infrastructures and services, through its dynamic participation in 11 European research projects, which aim to enhance the competitiveness of the European telecommunications market at a global level.
