Windows 10 cumulative update KB4041676 is one of the Patch Tuesday and concerns systems with Creators Update , bringing new security improvements and bug fixes.
However, several users who installed the update on their computers have encountered a BSOD problem. In fact, the number of cases has increased significantly in the last 24 hours.
Microsoft explains in a support article that it is all caused by what it describes as a “publishing issue,” noting that systems receiving the update via Windows Update or Windows Update for Business were not affected. Additionally, the company confirmed that the issue occurs after installing cumulative update KB4041691.
Microsoft also said it fixed this specific issue in KB4041676 on October 10th via validated security updates that it recommends all users receive.
Since the problem is solved, we have the following three possible cases:
First, those who have received the update but have not yet installed it should rescan for updates so that the issue is automatically resolved.
Second, those who have downloaded the updates but have not rebooted should uninstall the pending updates.
Third, those who have completed the update must reboot to recover the system, run a set of commands to restore the operating system, and finally reboot to the desktop in order for the correct updates to be deployed.
At this point, it is not yet known how many applications are affected by this bug, but given that it primarily affects businesses, IT administrators are undoubtedly not happy, especially when the unwanted cumulative update renders systems unusable to boot to the desktop.
