Yesterday we saw several websites reporting that Xiaomi revealed upcoming MIUI 9 screenshots to users on Weibo. These screenshots were actually from Xiaomi's official Geometric Themes series, and the company's product manager only wanted to collect feedback and users' thoughts on the upcoming design of MIUI 9.
Xiaomi rushed to clarify that it is simply a screenshot from an upcoming MIUI 9 theme, and that it is in no way related to the features or design of MIUI 9.
In a statement , the company states:
“The MIUI product manager recently shared a screenshot on Weibo. The main purpose was to gather comments and feedback from users about the upcoming design of MIUI 9. It was clearly stated that the attached screenshot concerned one of the themes created by the MIUI team. However, some technology sites mistakenly reported that it was a screenshot leaked from MIUI 9.”
Furthermore, Xiaomi revealed that the official release date is close and that it is very likely that the new MIUI 9 will arrive before August 16, 2017. So if all goes well, within the next month Xiaomi fans will be able to enjoy the brand new operating system.
If, however, at present we do not know many things, the only certainty is that the upcoming operating system will be based on Android 7.0 and Android 7.1 Nougat. According to reports, MIUI 9 will feature Split Screen and other impressive features, while based on statements from Xiaomi's CEO, “MIUI9 will be more “flexible” and more powerful than previous versions”.
So, we are expecting quite a few new features for the upcoming release, which is expected to launch within the next month. A little patience then, and don't be swayed by internet rumors.
Addition: Among the Xiaomi devices that will receive the new MIUI 9 are the Xiaomi Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Mi 5, Mi Max, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus.
