Microsoft has announced the acquisition of Hexadite, a Boston-based company working with researchers in Tel-Aviv, Israel. The company focuses specifically on developing automated incident response and system recovery solutions.
If at first glance your company's specialization sounds like a nuclear science title, what Microsoft plans to do with this acquisition is to improve Advanced Threat Protection in Windows Defender with automated investigation and remediation capabilities that use artificial intelligence, with Hexadite technology.
Microsoft's ultimate goal is to provide improved security in Windows 10, strengthening protection against zero-day attacks, ransomware, and other cyberthreats in addition to malware, whose detection is usually based on old detection methods.
The entire Hexadite team will be hired by Microsoft and the company will be integrated into the Windows and Devices Group, which means that there will be an emphasis on improving security features in Windows 10.
“Our vision is to deliver a new generation of security capabilities for our customers to protect, detect and respond to the ever-evolving and ever-changing cyberthreat landscape,” said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group.
“Hexadite’s technology and talent will augment our existing capabilities and allow us to add new tools and services to Microsoft’s robust enterprise security solutions.”
Now that they've seen the "strong security solutions" I personally don't know... perhaps with the addition of new technologies like the one we mentioned above, Windows users will be able to enjoy a more secure environment.
