Asus announced the ZenFone AR in January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The ZenFone AR is the world's first smartphone to come with 8GB of RAM and support for Tango and Daydream.
Although the phone was announced earlier this year, Asus has yet to schedule a release date. However, sources say the new smartphone could be launched on June 14 in Taiwan and sometime in the US in July.
Asus has already started sending out invites for the ZenFone AR launch day in Taiwan. The phone will be available in two variants, one with 6GB of RAM and the other with 8GB. It should be noted that the 6GB RAM variant will be available on Verizon this summer.
The main feature of the new smartphone is its support for Google Tango, and it is rumored to run 100 Tango apps initially, with the number expected to reach 1,000 by 2018. Additionally, to create 3D maps of the surrounding area, the ZenFone AR comes with three cameras. The main camera is a 23MP Sony IMX318, while the others allow for motion tracking and depth sensing.
The smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution to support Google's virtual reality platform, Daydream.
The internal memory reaches 64GB or 128GB and will be powered by the Snapdragon 821 processor. Its price is said to reach $ 800 but this remains to be confirmed during the event.
