Microsoft no longer wants to launch a smartwatch, even though the Band has been more or less successful. So the company is relying more on partners who are willing to invest in this market.
Today, the software giant announced that Trekstor will launch a brand new smartwatch running Windows 10 IoT Core, largely in an effort to replace wearable devices that businesses use to perform various tasks such as inventory management, patient care, industrial automation in manufacturing.
Before anything else it's worth noting that this is not a consumer-facing device and at this point it's still in development, so only a little has been revealed.
However, Microsoft said the device has a 1.54-inch display and features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with plenty of storage, processing power, and battery life. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and the watch also has a microphone for sending voice messages, Microsoft says.
“The TrekStor IoT wearable is cloud- connected , can run Universal Windows Applications. It is as secure and manageable as any other Windows device, and leverages Microsoft Azure Cloud services like Microsoft Cognitive Services,” the company said in its announcement today.
As for all the other details, we don't know anything else, but Microsoft promises to reveal all the information "in the coming months.".
Microsoft gave up on the Band, which was unable to launch the device due to a failed experiment to install Windows 10 IoT Core on the third-generation model, so the arrival of a Trekstor device that accompanies this application raises questions about the problems the company faced during development.
