As we approach April 21, it becomes clear that Samsung's latest flagship may actually become the best in smartphone sales of the current year. Korean reports recently revealed that Samsung managed to surpass 1 million pre‑orders of the Galaxy S8.
Samsung has recorded more than 1 million pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in its home country, over 10 days after the pre-order process began in South Korea. Data collected from local telecom operators shows the highest pre-order rate ever for a new smartphone in the country.
The smartphone maker has set a sales target of more than 60 million units for the Galaxy S8, compared to 52 million units sold for the Galaxy S7. The latest figure shows that Samsung has indeed surpassed its previous pre-order target, but that doesn't mean that all 1 million customers will end up buying the phone.
Analysts say that over 70% of people who have pre-ordered the phone will actually purchase it, with a similar ratio recorded last year with the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung's sales momentum will start to decline as we approach the weeks when Apple will announce its anniversary iPhone 8.
Customers around the world who pre-ordered the Galaxy S8 are anxiously awaiting smartphones to arrive, but those in Canada in particular will be disappointed to hear that they won't be receiving their devices sooner. Rogers and Fido had previously announced that their customers would be able to pick up their pre-ordered Galaxy S8s before the April 21 launch, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
