Google has introduced two new Chromebooks built specifically for the education market, a place where the company has made progress in recent years.
Chrome OS is one of the strongest platforms for educators, surpassing major competitors like Apple and Microsoft. In fact, by some estimates, Chromebooks represent about half of the U.S. education market, which makes sense considering the simplified operating system that can be easily used by teachers and students at very low prices.
So, Google launches the Acer Chromebook Spin 11, with an 11.6-inch touchscreen, Intel Celeron processor, and multiple internal storage and RAM options, which of course change the price.
Then there's the Asus Chromebook Flip C213, which comes with a modular design that also allows for 360-degree articulation on a rubber bumper. This means that in the event of a breakdown, you can easily replace the parts that don't work, which is very useful for careless children.
Both devices come with “world-facing cameras” so students can use the Chromebooks to easily take photos and videos. The camera is on the keyboard side, but when you flip the Chromebook over, the camera faces outward.
The devices come with support for Wacom pens, which are extremely low-cost “pens” that can be used by students to draw or take notes. They don’t require charging or pairing, and can be shared between students.
With Android apps coming to Chromebooks soon, there will be many more users interested in the devices as they gain more features.
Prices have not been announced yet, but they will definitely be quite low and special for students.
