The Sky television station exclusively broadcast the research of the Secnews.gr
The report was edited by journalist Timos Papadopoulos and the research was presented by Secnews editor-in-chief Konstantinos Vavousis and collaborator Anna Louzi.
The aim of the report was to awaken citizens who are unaware of the dangers lurking behind security cameras.
The results of the Secnews and iGuru survey showed that the vast majority (96%) of camera owners are unaware that they are exposed or that anyone can monitor their stores or companies.
As detailed in the article published by the editorial team of Secnews.gr, this is not an error on the part of the security camera , but of the owner who chooses not to change the credentials. In short, when we leave “username-admin” and “password-admin” it is very easy for someone who knows our IP to set the IP and the “admin-admin” details and therefore gain full control of our personal data.
The most important and most worrying discovery of the research is that one does not need to have specialized technological knowledge to gain unauthorized access to the cameras as some basic programming and networking knowledge is more than enough.
The Secnews and iGuru team, in an effort to help citizens, as part of the research it conducted, created a custom-made application that allows the interested party to enter IP address and determine whether their security camera is exposed in order to proceed with immediate repair or to inform the relevant authorities.
Attached below is the link to the application which we recommend you consult.
