WhatsApp adds end-to-end encryption and?

Do you use WhatsApp? Good news: the app now encrypts all communications sent from its platform by default, regardless of the device you use.WhatsApp

In mid-March, we heard that encrypted voice calls would be rolling out. The encrypted text messaging feature is already in the app.

Apparently, the company kept its promise, according to Wired.

This move comes to protect the end user from indiscriminate legal and illegal actors, and the timing is right at the point where the global community is trying to find the balance between preserving privacy and the level of access of law enforcement authorities.

The case of Apple, the FBI, and the San Bernardino terrorist's iPhone sparked much public debate on the above topic.

While the discussions continue, everyone now knows that the FBI gained access to the device, which was expected of us, one way or another.

Opinion: Although everyone at iGuRu.gr appreciates and recognizes the necessity of encryption, we find that there is a lack of transparency and accountability in what is said and done by the authorities and secret services. (After all, what kind of secret services would they be if there was transparency and accountability?).

So, since there is no trust and the WhatsApp software code does not allow for checks (closed source), any announcement of expanding security with a bonus enhanced encryption code does not particularly excite us.

The solution?

Open Source: Everything open for scrutiny, transparency. Difficult as the interests involved are invaluable….
