Skype for Web announced new additions today, aiming to bring it on par with its desktop counterparts.
So starting today, or rather later today, you will be able to call mobile and landline phones directly from the Web application.
Of course the service isn't free, but the rates seem to be quite affordable (starting at 2.3¢ per minute for domestic calls) if you need to make a call from your computer for some reason.
Secondly, starting today (or later today) you will be able to watch YouTube videos directly from your chat (yes, just like MSN Messenger, if you remember).
So links to videos sent from within a chat window will now display the video along with the URL, so you don't have to open a new tab in your browser.
Finally, Microsoft added notifications to the Web version of Skype, to make it behave more like a desktop app.
We will see the changes on a global level starting today.
