The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, within the framework of an international operation, identified the involvement of a 60-year-old foreigner and filed a regular criminal case against him for online child pornography and pornographic representations of minors.

Specifically, the investigation of the case began following appropriate utilization and analysis of information-data, carried out by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, according to which the owner of an email account was chatting with other Internet users regarding the payment of an amount, in exchange for either live streaming of children engaging in sexual acts or the possibility of meeting children, with the aim of committing an indecent act against them.

The investigation data were brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office and a relevant Order and Resolution of the Athens Misdemeanor Courts Council was issued, to lift the confidentiality of communications. From the utilization of the investigation data, the involvement of the 60-year-old foreigner in the case emerged.

In September, a team of police officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate went to the address where the 60-year-old was believed to be working, where the on-site investigation determined that he was now working and residing permanently abroad in a European country.

The competent authorities of the European country were then informed, immediately through police cooperation, in order to take all necessary actions, within their jurisdiction.

In the context of the investigation, it also emerged that between 23/12/2011 and 30/3/2015, the 60-year-old made two hundred and eighty-four (284) transactions in the Philippines, which concerned either the live streaming of children engaging in sexual acts or the possibility of meeting children with the aim of committing an indecent act against them.

The regular procedure file has been submitted to the competent Prosecution Authority.

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate continues targeted online investigations, within the framework of international operations and actions, to address and combat child pornography via the internet.
