Whitney Beall, a resident of Lakeland, Florida, committed several reckless acts last night. Not only did she choose to drive her car under the influence of alcohol, but she also decided to livestream her wild ride on Periscope, resulting in her being arrested in the act.
WTSP 10 News reports that a 23-year-old Periscope viewer saw her exploits livestreamed and called 911, reporting that Beall had repeatedly stated online that she was drunk and driving around North Lakeland
He also said he had a flat tire.
The caller had guessed the location of the drunk driver from the details of the area visible from her car windows. Officers located Beall's livestream, watched it, and soon identified Carpenters Way, where they also located the car with a flat front tire and arrested her.
Beall was tested for intoxication with a breathalyzer, found to be over the alcohol limit, and then taken to the Polk County Jail.
Lakeland Police spokesman Gary Gross said after the incident that the local police department will train its officers on how to use Periscope and other similar technologies so that they are able to respond to such incidents in the future.
