YouTube Shorts pioneers in the livestream space, competing with TikTok by adding new capabilities.
YouTube Shorts has made an attempt against TikTok with its latest feature, introducing vertical livestreams into the Shorts feed for the first time. It started in September 2020 and has helped many channels on the site to rocket to tens of thousands of subscribers.

Similar to TikTok, YouTube Shorts offers a special feed for users to upload and consume content up to one minute long.
Now, YouTube has made another attempt against TikTok by adding a new vertical livestream feature, and you'll be able to find them within the existing Shorts feed.
YouTube Shorts expands its offering with vertical livestreams.
YouTube was testing vertical livestreams on the platform since August 2023, but expanded it to all users on February 7, 2024.
It was announced in a video on the YouTube Creators, which breaks down the requirements for being able to broadcast live on the platform, as well as some of the options you'll be able to take advantage of during broadcast setup.

These will appear in the feed similar to how it is done with streams on TikTok Live, and you will be able to click on them to enter the chat.
Additionally, creators on YouTube can make multiple streams both horizontally and vertically, so users can enjoy them as they wish.

As the YouTube support page warns on Twitter, however, it will appear as two streams and requires the use of additional software.
Overall, the reaction to the new feature has been positive and users seem to be very excited to go live with the new feature .
