Mozilla announced to Developers that significant changes are coming to Firefox extensions, the well-known Add-ons.
The most significant change begins with the adoption of a new extension creation API that will be largely compatible with that of Blink-based browsers like Chrome and Opera.
This WebExtensions API will provide Chrome extension creators with the ability to convert their extension to run on Firefox with a few minor code changes.
Furthermore, starting with version 42 of Firefox, developers will have to obtain a digital signature and approval for the release of extensions after a review by Mozilla people, which will take a considerable amount of time (from weeks to months).
Finally, we are anxiously awaiting the tabs in Firefox to become separate processes, something we will see in version 43 and which Chrome already uses. (When one tab crashes, it doesn't crash the entire browser..)
